I invite you to contemplate the invisible, to feel the eternal in the ephemeral,

to discover the human in the divine.

“Deep down, my obsession has always been the same:

to capture the body—the human spirit—through time.”

BIO

Josefina Soriano is a Mexican artist whose work centers on the reinterpretation of classical art and its enduring capacity to illuminate the human condition. Her practice—timeless in tone and rich in symbolism—examines the tensions between past and present, revealing the persistence of impulses, desires, and contradictions that have defined humanity across centuries.

Throughout her life, Soriano de Teresa has lived in various cities in both the United States and Mexico, an experience that has endowed her with a culturally diverse perspective essential to the development of her visual language. This plurality is expressed in a continuous dialogue between mythology, art history, and contemporary references.

With a critical approach that moves between the defiant, the contemplative, and the playfully ironic, the artist revisits Greco-Roman narratives and iconic works of the Western canon, confronting them with the symbols and concerns of the modern world. In her compositions, deities, heroes, and historical figures interact with everyday objects and elements of contemporary culture, generating a discourse that merges aesthetic sophistication, symbolic subversion, and a distinctly conceptual dimension.

Soriano de Teresa holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialization in Digital Art from the University of Texas–Pan American. She has complemented her education through studies with internationally recognized artists. Over the past decade, she has taught courses in painting, color theory, mixed media, and drawing, contributing to the formation of new generations of creators.

STATEMENT

Known for her mastery in capturing the human spirit through the classical figure, Josefina Soriano de Teresa develops an artistic practice deeply rooted in figurative art and in the historical and cultural significance of ancient sculpture. Her work, timeless in character, transcends form to become a vehicle for introspection—an arena where body, memory, and emotion engage in continuous dialogue.

The themes that shape her production resonate with mythology and ancient civilizations, enduring sources of reflection. Through the recontextualization of sculptural fragments, the artist isolates gestures suspended in time and releases them from their original narrative to reveal their essential symbolic content. This process enables a renewed reading of primary emotions—desire, vulnerability, strength, contemplation—which are projected toward the viewer as mirrors of the human experience.

“I am captivated by the beauty and complexity of the human body. The inherent sensuality of classical sculpture inspires me profoundly.

My work explores symbolism and mythology to delve into the concepts that shape the human condition. A central theme in my practice is the timeless adage ‘Know thyself,’ which underscores the introspective nature of my artistic journey.”

In her practice, Soriano weaves eroticism and emotional tension with a subtlety that challenges the gaze. Her compositions evoke passion, fragility, and strength while addressing themes such as the subjectivity of beauty, freedom, and violence.

The Museo de Arte San Pedro in Puebla has described her work as “a masterful fusion of contemporary awareness and classical art—a synthesis that bears witness to her aesthetic vision: a poetic and provocative dialogue between past and present.” Her artistic proposal invites the viewer into a path of introspection and sensory resonance, where beauty functions as a form of thought and the image becomes a bridge between eras and sensibilities.

“Art Hotel”

The concept of an “Art Hotel” champions the value of authentic and genuine art, that which springs from the artist's sensitivity and vision, not from mass production. Today, many hotels call themselves “artistic” because of their architecture or interior design, but a true Art Hotel goes beyond aesthetics: it lives and breathes art. Its walls engage with contemporary creation, exhibiting original works that guests can admire and even purchase. Thus, the hotel ceases to be merely a place to rest and transforms into a living gallery, a space where the experience becomes emotional and meaningful. Hospitality, from its origins, has been an expression of humanism: sharing, welcoming, connecting. In this sense, art and hospitality converge on the same purpose: creating human connections. Exhibiting genuine art not only beautifies a space but also humanizes it, generating an atmosphere of warmth, community, and belonging. In a world saturated with reproduced images, an Art Hotel reminds us that true beauty is not manufactured: it is created with soul.

“Hospital Art”

Art as a Healing Tool in Hospitals: Creating welcoming and relaxing spaces is essential in any hospital. Art plays a fundamental role by offering a positive and cathartic experience that promotes the emotional and physical well-being of patients, their companions, and medical staff. Various studies in environmental psychology and neuroscience demonstrate that art reduces stress, anxiety, and blood pressure, while stimulating the production of dopamine and serotonin, neurotransmitters associated with calmness and recovery. People don't go to a hospital by choice; they arrive in moments of vulnerability and loss of control. Therefore, the environment should contribute to alleviating their emotional burden. Incorporating genuine art into hospital spaces humanizes the medical experience and transforms the environment into a haven of empathy and beauty. Images of nature—landscapes, light, water, flowers—have a proven therapeutic effect: they strengthen the immune system and increase levels of healthy cytokines, which help the body fight illness and trauma. Emotions such as awe and admiration activate brain areas related to resilience and hope. Thus, art not only decorates: it heals, comforts, and connects.

“Functional Art”

Art and interior design are complementary languages. In my projects, they converge in a proposal of functional art: works conceived not only to be contemplated, but to integrate harmoniously with the space, enhancing its atmosphere and narrative. Sometimes, the space itself calls for a work that completes it, balances it, or expresses it. In these cases, art becomes functional, not because it loses its aesthetic value, but because it acquires an emotional and architectural dimension: it responds to the environment and transforms it. Each piece and each space tells a story. Interior design generates emotions, and art amplifies them. Together they create identity, character, and a sense of place. My aim is for each work to engage in dialogue with the architecture and with those who inhabit it, bringing the space to life, and transforming art from an isolated object into a holistic experience of beauty and well-being.
